The unveiling of a 429 Squadron Monument will take place on April 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the old Trinity Church which is located next to the Department of Motor Vehicles Branch in Middleton, Nova Scotia.

This Monument was erected by a World War II veteran and former member of 429 Squadron, Mr. Mark Smith who has recently passed away. He wanted to do something that would honor his comrades and keep the memories alive of the ultimate sacrifices these men gave for freedom. Hence the construction of the Memorial Wall which is very impressive to say the least.

The Minister of National Defense, the Honorable Peter MacKay and the Member of Parliament for West Nova, Mr. Greg Kerr will be attending as well as local dignitaries and MLA’S and hopefully the Premier of Nova Scotia as well. The Wing Commander of 14 Wing Greenwood, Colonel Bill Seymour and the Commanding Officer of 429 Squadron Lieutenant Colonel Huddleston from 8 Wing Trenton will also be in attendance. This event will mark a very special occasion, which will be an act of Remembrance that will last for many years to come.

We hope those that can attend to please do so and there will be parking available behind the Motor Vehicles Branch for this occasion.
